As we have done in the past, the website and app will continue to be a good source for general school information, updates such as school closings due to weather, school calendars, lunch menus, etc.

The Marshall Cubs will play the Casey-Westfield Braves for the 2A Regional Baseball Championship at Jerald Barr Field in Casey, 306 Edgar Avenue, at 4:15 PM on Wednesday, September 17th. It should be a beautiful day for a baseball game, and they would greatly support you coming over to cheer them on!

The goal of the day was to spark interest and enthusiasm in these critical areas by providing engaging, real-world challenges that encouraged problem-solving, teamwork, and innovation to meet the objectives given by our science teachers, which were:
8th Grade – Build a “water rocket” from a 2-liter Coke bottle, partially filled with water, which we pressurized and launched using a specially designed launcher. During the project, students worked together in small groups to apply Newton’s Third Law of Motion, key vocabulary, and design principles to achieve the highest flight. The students worked together for 90 minutes before testing their initial design with the “rocket” pressurized to 40 PSI. Following the initial test phase, students were able to redesign or make adjustments to maximize the flight. For the final flight, groups were able to decide how much water they would use and rationalize why more or less would alter their rocket.
Students collected data, including height, air time, water usage, and recorded notes, as well as observations and self-reflection questions, using the knowledge gained in class.
7th Grade
Students in 7th Grade worked in teams to build catapults. Throughout the morning, students had lessons and learned about the history and science of the catapult, created teams to work together, and began researching designs. During this phase, each team needed two designs before the “team leader” decided which concept they would build. Teams then had 45 minutes to build their catapult using molding clay, hot glue, popsicle sticks, craft sticks, plastic spoons, and other materials provided for weight (ballast).
Mid-morning, students went to the test center fortress, which Mr. Buchter built in the gym, and fired off projectiles (clay balls) to attack the fortress, which had teachers and staff. Following the initial test run, teams returned to their classrooms and made revisions to their design based on observations and analysis.
Following the redesign, all 7th-grade teams and students rallied in the gym for a competition to garner the most points and a reflection on the design, math, science, and history of the catapults.
This real-world scenario would not be possible without the support and effort of our staff. It was a valuable learning experience for our students. Additionally, we collaborated with a high school student to fly a drone and record the rocket launches. We are excited to review the footage and make further analysis.
