The Marshall Junior High School track and field teams turned in an impressive performance at last night’s meet, collecting numerous first-place finishes, personal bests, and strong relay performances across both the boys and girls divisions.

The boys' team showcased its depth in the sprint events and relays. In the 7th-grade 100-meter dash, Kale Platt captured first place with a personal-best time of 12.50, while teammates Sam Wernz and Augy Schneider also posted personal records. In the 8th-grade race, Quentin Shaffer finished runner-up with a personal-best 12.95, followed closely by Lawsen Crouch in third.

Marshall dominated the middle-distance races as well. Grayson Edwards won the 7th-grade 400 meters in 1:00.65, while Talon Edmonds took first in the 8th-grade race with a sub-minute performance of 59.22. Sixth-grader Griffin Thompson continued his outstanding season by winning the 1600 meters in a personal-best 5:21.40 and placing second in the 800 meters.

The hurdles proved to be another strength for Marshall. Colby Claypool led a dominant 7th-grade hurdle sweep, winning the event in a personal-best 17.06. Teammates Emmet Maurer and Jace Mullen followed in second and third place.

Marshall’s relay teams were exceptional throughout the evening. The 7th-grade boys claimed victories in the 4x100, 4x200, 4x400, and sprint medley relays, while the 8th-grade boys captured first in the 4x200 relay and the throwers relay. The 4x200 squad of Edmonds, Crouch, Shaffer, and Max Eastin posted a winning time of 1:48.34.

In the field events, Marshall athletes continued to shine. Jace Mullen won the 7th-grade shot put with a throw of 37’7.5”, while Kale Platt cleared a personal-best 5’4” to win the high jump. Colby Claypool added another victory with a personal-best and tying school record leap of 17’8” in the long jump. In the 8th-grade high jump, Max Eastin earned first place with a personal-best jump of 5’5”.

The Marshall girls' team was equally dominant, collecting multiple event titles and relay wins. In the sprints, Liberty Cline and Bristol Clark finished first and second in the 8th-grade 100 meters, both with personal-best performances. Sixth-grader Regan Mcconchie won the 7th-grade 200 meters and placed third in the 100 meters.

Marshall also dominated the distance races. Brynna Farrell captured both the 800-meter and 1600-meter titles for the 7th grade, while Charlee Francis and Bella Cervantes went one-two in the 8th-grade distance events.

The girls' relay teams delivered several standout performances. Marshall won the 7th-grade 4x100 relay and the 8th-grade 4x100, 4x200, and sprint medley relays. The 8th-grade 4x100 team of Layla Deckard, Libby Huisinga, Clark, and Cline raced to victory in 59.43.

In the field events, Marshall continued its success. Deckard won the 8th-grade shot put with a throw of 28’3.5”, while Aubrie Ockerman captured first place in discus. Kimberly Gembe won the 7th-grade high jump, and Huisinga took the 8th-grade title. McConchie added another first-place finish in the 7th-grade long jump.

Both teams will be back in action on Saturday at the IESA Sectional in Newton, beginning at 9:00 AM.
