The Marshall Junior High School track team turned in an outstanding performance at yesterday’s meet against Jasper County, collecting numerous first-place finishes, personal bests, and relay victories across both the boys and girls races.
The boys' team showcased its depth and speed throughout the evening. In the sprint events, seventh grader Kale Platt captured first place in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.2 seconds, while eighth graders Devin Cox and Khonor Pierson finished second and third in the 8th-grade race.
Marshall dominated the 200-meter events. Seventh grader Emmett Maurer won the 7th-grade race in a personal-best 28.2 seconds, followed closely by Lucas Sherrell and sixth grader Knox Eastin in second and third. In the 8th-grade division, Lawsen Crouch and Max Reed finished first and second.
Marshall runners also excelled in the middle-distance races. Grayson Edwards won the 7th-grade 400-meter dash, while Talon Edmonds earned a personal-best victory in the 8th-grade race with a time of 57.6 seconds. Distance standout Griffin Thompson swept the 7th-grade distance races, winning both the 800 meters and 1600 meters, while Henry Arthur claimed victories in both 8th-grade distance events.
The hurdles were another strong event for Marshall. Colby Claypool won the 7th-grade hurdles in 17.9 seconds, while Knox Eastin took first in the 8th-grade race.
Marshall relay teams continued the momentum with several first-place finishes. The 7th-grade boys won both the 4x100 and 4x400 relays, while the 8th-grade boys captured victories in the 4x100, 4x200, and sprint medley relay.
In the field events, Marshall athletes delivered several standout performances. Jace Mullen won the 7th-grade shot put with a personal-best throw of 11.50 meters. Max Reed finished second in the discus with a personal-best 32.63 meters, and Devin Cox placed third. In the jumps, Kale Platt cleared a personal-best 1.57 meters to win the high jump, while Talon Edmonds and Max Eastin finished first and second in the 8th-grade high jump. Colby Claypool and Max Eastin each earned victories in the long jump.
The Marshall girls' team also enjoyed an exceptional meet with strong performances across the board. In the sprint events, Liberty Cline finished second in the 8th-grade 100 meters, while Bristol Clark took third.
The girls' distance runners were dominant throughout the meet. Brynna Farrell won both the 7th-grade 800 meters and 1600 meters, posting a personal-best time in the mile. Eighth grader Charlee Francis captured the 1600-meter title and placed second in the 800 meters, while Bella Cervantes added strong finishes in both events.
Marshall athletes also shined in the hurdles and relays. Sixth grader Regan McConchie won the 7th-grade hurdles in a personal-best 21.0 seconds, while Layla Deckard claimed first in the 8th-grade hurdles. The girls' relay teams earned multiple victories, including first-place finishes in the 8th-grade 4x100, 8th-grade 4x200, both 4x400 relays, and the 7th-grade sprint medley relay.
The field events were another highlight for the Lady Cubs. Layla Deckard won the 8th-grade shot put, while Aubrie Ockerman captured the discus title with a personal-best throw. In the high jump, Kimberly Gembe won the 7th-grade competition with a personal-best clearance of 1.22 meters. Regan McConchie also added a victory in the 7th-grade long jump, while Libby Huisinga and Liberty Cline both posted personal-best performances in the 8th-grade long jump.
The Cubs will be back in action Monday, May 11th, at Paris Mayo, starting at 4:30 PM. Following that, the Cubs will begin postseason at the Newton Jasper County Sectional on May 16th.
