The Marshall Lions competed at the IHSA Sectional hosted by Newton High School on May 20, turning in several personal-best performances and earning a state qualification against a strong field of competition.
The Lions were led by Bryce Griguhn, who qualified for the IHSA State Meet with an outstanding third-place finish in the shot put. Griguhn recorded a new personal-best throw of 14.41 meters to earn his trip to Charleston. Griguhn also had a strong performance in the discus, placing eighth with another personal-best throw of 39.64 meters.
Marshall had several strong efforts in the distance events. In the 1600-meter run, Steven Hendrixson placed fifth with a time of 4:51.37, while Turner Graham finished 19th in 5:18.55.
In the 800-meter run, Jacob Weber recorded a new personal-best time of 2:37.05. Brayden Shaw also earned a personal-best performance, finishing 24th in 2:51.48.
Thomas Weber competed in the 3200-meter run and finished 11th with a time of 11:05.76.
In the sprint events, Lane Hanson placed 28th in the 100-meter dash with a time of 14.22 seconds.
Marshall also saw improvement in the jumping events. Billy Guillemette recorded a personal-best jump of 4.58 meters to place 18th in the long jump, while Lane Hanson added a personal-best jump of 4.28 meters to finish 19th. In the triple jump, Billy Guillemette recorded a jump of 9.02 meters.
The next meet for the Marshall Lions will be the IHSA State Meet in Charleston, Illinois on May 28 and May 30.
