The Marshall Lady Lions delivered an outstanding performance at the IHSA Shelbyville Sectional earning multiple state qualifications, personal-best performances, and sectional championships while competing against some of the top teams in the area.

Marshall qualified 8 athletes for the IHSA State Finals in 7 events and continued to showcase the strength and depth of the program across the track and field events.

Marlee Heighton had an exceptional day for the Lady Lions. In the 100-meter dash, Heighton placed third with a personal-best time of 12.81 seconds to qualify for the IHSA State Finals. She also earned a fourth-place finish in the long jump with another personal-best performance of 5.19 meters (17 feet, ½ inch), securing a second trip to the state finals.

Aubree Shaffer added a 10th-place finish in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.54 seconds, while Peyton Edwards placed 13th in the 200-meter dash in 29.70 seconds.

In the 400-meter dash, Saige Toney recorded a personal-best time of 1:10.27 to finish 13th overall.

Marshall continued to shine in the distance events. In the 800-meter run, Myah Boyd finished 10th with a time of 2:47.26, while Addie Nave placed 12th in 2:53.29.

Molly Farrell captured the sectional championship in the 1600-meter run with a winning time of 5:04.89, qualifying for the IHSA State Finals. Farrell is now a three-time individual event sectional champion during her high school career. Madeleine Fox also advanced to state in the event with a fourth-place finish and a time of 5:26.52.

In the 3200-meter run, Grace Thompson earned a fourth-place finish with a time of 12:17.69 to qualify for the IHSA State Finals. Addie Nave added a sixth-place finish in 13:58.96.

The Lady Lions also had several strong performances in the hurdle events. Addy Ross placed fifth in the 100-meter hurdles with a personal-best time of 17.47 seconds, while Ellie Delp finished 10th in 18.80 seconds. Delp later earned a sixth-place finish in the 300-meter hurdles with another personal-best time of 55.76 seconds.

Marshall’s relay teams continued their strong postseason performances. The 4x200-meter relay team of Aubree Shaffer, Lilly Ross, Peyton Edwards, and Marlee Heighton placed fourth with a time of 1:52.05.

The 4x400-meter relay team of Aubree Shaffer, Molly Farrell, Madeleine Fox, and Marlee Heighton placed second with a season-best time of 4:09.71 to qualify for the IHSA State Finals.

The 4x800-meter relay team of Lilly Ross, Grace Thompson, Myah Boyd, and Madeleine Fox also qualified for the IHSA State Finals with a runner-up finish and a time of 10:19.29.

In the field events, Ella Mattas became a sectional champion in the shot put with a winning throw of 10.87 meters (35 feet, 8 inches), qualifying for the IHSA State Finals. Lauren Richards placed 15th with a throw of 8.21 meters (26 feet, 11¼ inches).

In the discus, Marie Maurer finished 11th with a throw of 28.77 meters (94 feet, 4 inches), while Lauren Richards placed 19th with a throw of 24.75 meters (81 feet, 2 inches).

The Lady Lions had an incredible day at the sectional meet, combining state qualifications, sectional championships, season-best performances, and personal records.

The next meet for the Marshall Lady Lions will be the IHSA State Finals, which will be held May 21-23 in Charleston, Illinois.

The Lady Lions 4 x 400 including Molly Farrell, Aubree Schaffer, Marlee Heighton, and Madeleine Fox qualified for the IHSA State Track Meet. Farrell and Fox also qualified in the 1600 and Heighton in the Long Jump and 100.

Shot Put

The Lady Lions 4 x 800 including Lilly Ross, Madeleine Fox, Myah Boyd, and Grace Thompson qualified for the IHSA State Track Meet. Thompson also qualified in the 3200.
