Lions Baseball

On Monday the Marshall Lions made their way down to Mt. Carmel for an LIC matchup with the Mt. Carmel Golden Aces.  The Lions were able to do enough to remain in the game for the duration of the game.  In the end, though it would be some defensive errors that in part did Marshall in, and the result was a loss in a one-run game by the score of 5-4.

The Golden Aces got on the board first in the bottom of the first with two runs, then later in the top of the third Marshall came back to tie it up at 2-2.  The scoring in twos continued in the bottom of the fifth when Mt. Carmel retook the lead with two more runs to make it 4-2.

It wouldn’t last long, however, as Marshall came right back to tie it up again at 4-4 with two more runs.  It was by no means a defensive showcase for either team as Mt. Carmel committed three errors in the game and the Lions committed five.  But as often happens, when you execute on the little things you give yourself the best chance to win.  And the Golden Aces did a little more in the end, scoring a run in the bottom of the seventh for a walk-off win by the final of 5-4.

For Marshall, Garrett Pugh was the player of the game with the bat, going 1 for 2 with a couple of RBIs, a run scored and stole a base.  Payton McGuire put in a good effort on the mound going 3 2/3 innings giving up two runs, one earned one unearned, and two hits.
