The Marshall Lady Lions turned in an outstanding performance at the Little Illini Conference Championship Meet on Wednesday, May 6 in Lawrenceville, finishing third overall as a team while delivering conference titles, school records, personal bests, and season-best performances across the board.
Marshall was led by multiple conference champions and several strong relay performances throughout the evening.
In the 100-meter dash, Marlee Heighton placed fourth in 13.23 seconds, while Aubree Schaffer earned eighth place in 13.50 seconds. The Lady Lions continued in the 200-meter dash as Lilly Ross finished seventh in 28.78 seconds and Peyton Edwards ran a personal-best time of 29.13 seconds.
In the 400-meter dash, Saige Toney recorded a personal-best performance of 1:10.39 to place ninth overall, while Addie Nave finished 10th in 1:11.46.
The distance events were a major strength for Marshall. In the 800-meter run, Madeleine Fox captured her third consecutive conference championship with a winning time of 2:27.02. Myah Boyd added a sixth-place finish and a season-best time of 2:41.75.
Marshall dominated the 1600-meter run by finishing first and second overall. Molly Farrell won her third straight conference championship in the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:06.76, while Madeleine Fox followed with a runner-up finish in 5:29.21.
The Lady Lions also excelled in the 3200-meter run as Molly Farrell earned her third consecutive conference championship in the event with a winning time of 11:46.15. Grace Thompson placed third with a personal-best performance of 12:01.06. With her victories in the 1600 and 3200, Farrell now has six individual conference championships during her high school career.
In the hurdle events, Addy Ross placed sixth in the 100-meter hurdles with a season-best time of 18.09 seconds, while Ellie Delp finished eighth in 18.95 seconds. Delp also recorded a personal-best performance in the 300-meter hurdles, placing eighth in 57.04 seconds.
Marshall’s relay teams delivered some of the most exciting performances of the meet. The 4x200-meter relay team of Aubree Schaffer, Lilly Ross, Peyton Edwards, and Marlee Heighton placed second while breaking the school record with a time of 1:51.19.
The 4x400-meter relay team of Aubree Schaffer, Molly Farrell, Madeleine Fox, and Marlee Heighton captured the conference championship with a season-best time of 4:11.36.
The 4x800-meter relay team of Lilly Ross, Grace Thompson, Addie Nave, and Myah Boyd finished third with a season-best time of 10:42.23.
In the field events, Ella Mattas earned third place in the shot put with a throw of 10.97 meters (36 feet, 0 inches). Braelyn Crouch recorded a personal-best throw of 8.56 meters (28 feet, 1 inch) to finish 10th overall.
In the discus, Maria Maurer placed sixth with a throw of 27.51 meters, while Lauren Richards finished eighth with a mark of 26.70 meters.
Marshall also scored valuable points in the long jump as Aubree Schaffer finished seventh with a jump of 4.33 meters and Marlee Heighton placed eighth with a jump of 4.32 meters.
The Lady Lions’ combination of conference championships, relay success, school-record performances, and numerous personal-best efforts helped power Marshall to an impressive third-place finish at the conference meet.
