Less than 24 hours after a disappointing season opener, the Marshall Lions were right back at it, hitting the long road ahead to Flora to take on the Flora Wolves on a bright, sunny Saturday. It looked like a completely different team from one day to the next with the bats, as Marshall exploded for one big inning in route to cruising to a victory by the run-rule shortened final of 15-5 in six innings.
That big inning came in the top of the second when the Lions put up a grand total of 11 runs in the inning. The offense was aided by Garrett Pugh’s two home run game, the first two homers of the season. Before then the Lions put up two in the first, then one in the fourth and sixth en route to the win.
In addition to Pugh’s homers, Reed Ramey had a good day at the plate getting two hits, both doubles, and driving in five runs. Gavan Propst also picked up a hit and drove in two runs. Branson Maskell scored four runs. Eli Thompson came across to score twice. Liam Keim, Tucker Osborn, Max Welsh, Cage Stuckey and Shane Tarble also scored runs.
Reed Ramey started on the hill for Marshall. He did give up five runs on eight hits, but only two runs were earned. He didn’t issue a walk and struck out three. Garrett Pugh saw time on the mound as well, throwing 2 2/3 scoreless innings. He walked five but also struck out five. Tucker Osborn went 1/3 inning unscored upon.
