On behalf of the Illinois State Board of Education, the Illinois 5Essentials Survey will be administered online by UChicago Impact at the University of Chicago to gather important information about the effectiveness of our schools.
The survey gathers data related to five indicators that can predict important student outcomes, including improved attendance and improved academic performance. These five indicators that affect and predict school success are: • Effective Leaders • Collaborative Teachers • Involved Families • Supportive Environments • Ambitious Instruction
As is required by the Illinois State Board of Education, all teachers and 4th through 12th grade students are asked to respond to this survey. The Illinois 5Essentials Survey for students and teachers will be conducted beginning February 13, 2024 through March 29, 2024. 5 Essentials Reports will be generated for schools if their teachers and/or students meet the response rate threshold of 50 percent. These reports will be sent to schools and districts in May 2024 and will also be included in the State School Report Card. For students 4th-12th, this survey will be administered at school and Marshall schools will have no access to individual responses.
As a parent you have the right to review the survey and opt out of the survey for you student if you wish. This is the link to review the survey.

An opt out form is linked below. Please return this form to the school office by February 13th for HS Students, February 20th for JH Students, and February 26th for North School Students, if you wish to not have your student take the survey.
Additionally, Marshall Schools has chosen to provide the optional Parent survey supplement. If at least 20 percent of parents complete this survey for a school, a parent supplement report will also be generated. The parent data will not be reported on the State Report Card. Your identity and survey responses will be kept completely confidential and will never be connected to you or your child. The Parent Survey Supplement is available now through March 29, 2024.
