Marshall High School senior student athlete Ella Mattas was awarded the Little Illini Conference Scholarship during the final day of the LIC boys basketball tournament on Friday, January 30th.
Ella is a four year, four sport athlete in volleyball, basketball, softball, and track and field. Earlier this season, Ella was recognized as an Illinois State Scholar.
Ella plans on attending the University of Illinois in the fall and major in interdisciplinary health.

On Friday, January 30 th , Marshall High School senior Kaiden Sanders signed his letter of intent
to attend Saint Mary of the Woods College and play college football. Kaiden signed his letter
with his parents, girlfriend Abbie, members of the Marshall High School football coaching staff,
as well as dear friends and classmates in attendance.
Saint Mary of the Woods in 2025 ended a very successful four-year run in sprint football. The
Pomeroys won two Midwest Sprint Football League championships (2022, 2025) and finished as
runner-up during the other two seasons (2023, 2024). SMWC is currently in a transitional phase
for football as the program will embark on its inaugural season at the NAIA college football
level in the fall of 2026.
Kaiden was highly recruited as a wide receiver by the Pomeroys after he played the position all
four years at Marshall High School. During his senior season, Kaiden finished with 18
receptions for 407 yards and 5 touchdowns. Kaiden also had 19 rushes for a total of 176 yards
and 2 touchdowns, recording a season long run of 81 yards for a TD in the final regular season
game at Newton which qualified the Lions for the IHSA playoffs for the first time wince 2017.
In addition, Kaiden recorded one kickoff return for 22 yards during the 2025 campaign. On the
defensive side of the ball, Kaiden had a total of 54 tackles playing from the cornerback position,
finishing second on the team with 46 solo tackles. He also intercepted 2 passes which tied for
the team lead.
Kaiden plans to study Finance in college, which will suit him well since he already manages an
auto detailing business in his spare time.
